Coaching the 21st Century Teacher -Notes

These are notes from the NAJDS session I attended yesterday- "Coaching the 21st Century Teacher" with Rabbi Joe Hirsch. I am trying to build fluency with my iPad, so I used the Corkulous app to take notes. Not only do I feel that the practice was good for my iPad fluency, I am happy with the notes that I am able to share, not only here on my blog, but I was able to email the notes to the person sitting next to me, as well as others who were not at the session.

Hi Andrea,

It looks like it was a fabulous training. I am wondering how coaching works in your district? Specifically, who gets coached and who does the coaching?

Regards,
Tracy

Hi Tracy-
I am not in a district, but at a private school. We really do not have a "culture of coaching" here, but it is something we are trying to establish.
Silvia and I are the "21c learning specialists" at our school; we do a lot of the coaching and are trying to lead a shift to more peer-coaching.

How about your district? How does coaching work there?

Hi Andrea,

Yes, this is our second year with peer coaching across the district. It is making a positive impact. Here's a post about some of the successes we've had. I'm currently working on a reflection, including how to improve, but it's not posted yet.

Regards,
Tracy

I read your post...and wasn't sure whether to continue the conversation here or there :)

So, are the coaches in your district also working FT in the classroom? Is there a structure or model that supports the coaching? Like, is there time built in or do the coaches get subs to release them in order to go into other classrooms?

I have to admit that I am still a little confused about how to make coaching work! But I am getting there- through reading, participating occasionally in the #educoach chat on Twitter and my own trial and error attempts!

I will look forward to reading your reflection.
Thanks for the discussion-
Andrea

Hey Andrea, this is Kai Lopez again with my last comment for your blog. More teacher's need to start doing this training because half the teachers today do not even know how to use an iPad. My friend has an iPad and uses it to take notes during his class. The iPad keeps everything very organized and is a great tool for teachers to use in their classrooms. It is also very user friendly and allow you to navigate with ease.
