My name is Emma Elwell and...Dear Andrea Hernandez,

My name is Emma Elwell and I am and EDM310 student at the University of South Alabama. I loved your view on read-alouds in the classroom. I did not look at it in this perspective until I read your blog. It has opened my eyes to how I could use it in my future classroom. I loved reading it and your blog as been a huge inspiration to my teaching career. Thank you so much!

Emma Elwell
www.elwellemmaedm310.blogspot.comAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05868521070169244422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6164400845780458490.post-12048239327404155242014-03-13T10:33:22.946-04:002014-03-13T10:33:22.946-04:00Donna,
Thanks so much for reading and commenting....Donna,
Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I'd love to have your child or grandchild in my classroom :-)

You are, of course, right about the read alouds being a rich opportunity if planned. I do sometimes read ahead the tiniest bit....but I just love being in the moment with the kids and the story.
I'm sure I could do it better though!Andreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10630103304646424890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6164400845780458490.post-46545053682617122272014-03-12T18:57:57.449-04:002014-03-12T18:57:57.449-04:00I just loved the conclusion of your post. Made me ...I just loved the conclusion of your post. Made me wish I was back in the classroom... and I'm telling you, I'd want my child or grandchild, in yours!
As Jagger said, "GO READALOUDS."

There is only one thing I would add to your comment. There are times, when planning for a read aloud, is a rich opportunity. For example, if you are working your way through reviewing, teaching, modelling a particular reading strategy, reviewing the text before you begin and finding an opportunity to plan for showing your thinking when you use that strategy, fully integrates your program.

If you are like me, you also teach to the moment and do much of this thinking on your feet, but planning for full integration can ramp up your program too.

As I said, I'd love to have my child or grandchild in your class! I bet your kids were just tickled pink when they got that shot from your phone.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
